Subaru of America has recently announced the return of its Subaru Loves Pets initiative, which dedicates the month of October to supporting the well-being and protection of domestic animals nationwide.

As part of Subaru Loves Pets, an extension of the Subaru Love Promise, the vehicle manufacturer will again partner with The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals® (ASPCA®) to help the annual 3.3 million shelter dogs to find a safe and loving home.

This year however, Subaru of America is taking its Love Promise one step further by establishing the first-ever “National Make A Dog’s Day” on October 22. On this day, Subaru and it’s vast network of retailers will sponsor a nationwide effort to help overlooked shelter dogs find permanent homes.

Working closely with the ASPCA, the effort will focus on dogs that are considered difficult to adopt as a result of special needs, specifically, senior dogs, amputees, visually and hearing impaired dogs, and dogs with birth defects and other physical challenges. Additionally, Subaru invites pet owners to do something special for their furry companions on this day.

“Pets play a big role in our lives and the lives of Subaru owners. While we support efforts all year dedicated to the betterment of animals’ lives, in October, we make a concerted effort to help shelter pets particularly hard-to-adopt ones find loving homes,” said Alan Bethke, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Subaru of America, Inc.”We are proud to establish the official National Make A Dog’s Day on October 22 and shine a light on hundreds of thousands of dogs that are often times passed over…”

As part of the month-long initiative, Subaru will begin airing a dog-focused commercial campaign throughout the month of October across all broadcast and digital platforms.

All month long, select Subaru retailers will also collect unused pet supplies for donation to sheltered animals. In addition to these donations, participating retailers will donate 5,500 shelter supply kits and 4,800 new pet parent kits to local shelters in order to stimulate the adoption process.
