The sales of the Subarus have been on the rise for some time now in the US, and the Japanese automaker is particularly known for making good use of the boxer style horizontally opposed engines and its rather plain and unappealing cabins. It is very practical though. Subarus get the job done on many levels.

The Subaru Forrester that falls in between the Impreza and the Outback is one of the roomiest cars from the company in a while.

Features

The base model of the Forrester comes with a 6.2 inch touch screen with starlink software; however the top model comes equipped with a 7 inch touch screen interface that also features voice commands. You will also find a new suite of safety features in the top end models.

The starlink software has a few apps under its belt such as Pandora, Aha, and Stitcher. No they cannot make you a sandwich or tie your shoes for you! The only difference in the upgraded model is better display and graphics with some added safety features as we discussed above.

The safety features includes emergency assistance and automatic collision notification. If you are choosing the optional security upgrade, then it will get you added features such as door unlocking, GPS, and vehicle location and recovery features.

The Eyesight System

Another optional upgrade that is available with the Forrester is the newly launched eyesight system which is being highly recommended by fans and experts alike. The eyesight upgrade comes with forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, forward collision crash mitigation, and automatic braking. Subaru has made the dual cameras less obstructive by placing them on either side of and above the rearview camera.

Specifications

The Forrester is powered by the 2.5 liter cylinder engine, and as it is typical with any Subaru, the four cylinders engine is horizontally opposed. The engine is capable of 170 horsepower output with 236 Nm of torque. The base model of the Forrester comes with manual transmission with CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) as an optional upgrade. The premium models have CVT as a default feature with no options for manual transmission.

The other model comes with a 2.0 liter boxer style engine that is capable of 250 horsepower with 350 Nm of torque. There is no manual transmission option as it come default with CVT and the engine is turbocharged. No matter what model you choose, they all come with four wheel drive.

The EPA ratings have incredible news for enthusiasts as the Forrester has been given a 25 mpg to 22 mpg rating for the city and 29 mpg on the highway for the manual transmission. If you are choosing the CVT model, the ratings changes to 27 mpg to 24 mpg for city and 32 mpg for the highway.

Plenty of Interior Comfort

Subaru Forrester is a crossover compact family car with great ergonomics which shows the thought and time that went into the design process of this car. The all new Forrester 2016 is quieter, faster but without the fan favorites hood scoops and standard CVT. It is more sophisticated than before though. Customers are however lining up for the cheaper 2.5i version. The braking and the traction are still the same in the new Forrester.
