In 2015, they sold 46,600 crossovers and cars. That is quite a feat considering the size and operation of the Japanese Automaker.
The Awards
Apart from that, they also won three different ALG Canadian Residual Awards for the Outback, Crosstrek, and WRX/WRX STI. They also managed to claim the best Mainstream Brand award. All the Subaru models performed really well in crash tests conducted by IIHS as well with five awards in 2015 alone making Subaru one of the most consistent performers in the category over the years. Legacy and Forester were among the longest Top Pick earners at ten and eleven years respectively.
The Concept
The company recently shared its new Impreza sedan concept in Canada for the first time winning some positive reviews from onlookers and generally on the social media platforms. Subaru Impreza hints broadly at not just the next-generation styling of the sedan, but also the design direction for all of their future models.
This is just one of the Impreza concepts though with the other being the five-door hatchback which made appearances at auto shows in Tokyo and Los Angeles earlier.
The rims even match the paint job – this is a fantastic and sporty new design. This is a car that wants and expects attention.
The Dimensions
The 2016 sedan is a little shorter by around thirty mm in terms of length, but is also almost forty mm wider than the previous generation. This contributes to the low and wide stance of the car which the automaker says will be a part of their future styling.
With its hawk-eye headlights which just look incredible, swept back body contours, and curvy fender flares, it is more aggressive as compared to the current WRX or WRX STI. It is interesting to witness how this translates into the production model of the Impreza, or, if it can retain the flair from the concept then how Subaru is going to build on it for the upcoming WRX variant.
This car is meant to cut through the wind and shoot down the roadway. It is also very practical since it does have four doors. This car can be taken grocery shopping and take you to work in style.
The Subaru Global Platform
As per Ted Lalka, VP at Subaru's product marketing and management division, the next generation Impreza is going to be constructed on the Subaru Global Platform from Fuji Heavy Industries, their parent company in Japan. This is a flexible chassis which can be used to assimilate all the future Subaru models, a resource and cost efficient strategy which has already been adopted, even though not as extensively by many competitors of the automaker. Which only gives Subaru another type of leg up over its competitors.
The Engine
What is under the hood has not been announced officially yet. It is most likely going to be a 2.0 L version of their trademark Boxer engine with direct injection since a few Subarus are already using efficiency boosting technology. The standard symmetrical AWD will be there for sure.
This car is outstanding. This car is breathtaking. Is it the best car on the road, perhaps not but it will be conducive to many peoples’ lifestyles and price range.
The Future
Subaru has announced that the production model of the Impreza was going to relocate from Gunma in Japan to their Lafayette, Indiana, SIA facility where their capacity is going to double from 200,000 to 400,000 when the production of the 2017 model starts later in 2016.
This increase in capacity comes at a very good time for Subaru. They are already in something of a unique position with barely being able to produce enough cars to keep up with the demand. Producing new models with the existing strengths of the brand suggest that this shortage is only going to become more prominent.
