Subaru of America has always been dedicated to finding ways to give back, and one of the areas where so much work is needed in our world today is equal and fair opportunities for quality education. Not all children and school districts have access to the resources they need for good education, and so Subaru has been working to address these inequalities since 2016 with its Subaru Loves Learning initiative.

This year, Subaru is dedicating the entire month of August towards working on this initiative, creating Subaru Loves Learning month! As part of this month of work, the automaker will be teaming up with AdoptAClassroom.org for a second year, working together to provide American teachers with flexible funding, allowing them to get the school supplies and resources required for all of their students to thrive this coming school year.

“Across the country, students are readying themselves for a new school year, but not all students have the same opportunities as their classmates to make the most of their education,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO, Subaru of America, Inc. “Together with our retailers, we are helping all students secure the resources they need to grow and succeed in the classroom and in their futures.”

Over 92% of classrooms have students whose families cannot afford to purchase any school supplies for their children, according to AdoptAClassroom.org. It’s common for teachers to end up using their own money to try to provide for these students, spending an average of up to $750 each year. The flexible funding that Subaru and AdoptAClassroom.org are working to provide during Subaru Loves Learning month could be useful in addressing this problem.

This August, Subaru will join over 600 participating retailers to work with AdoptAClassroom.org and “adopt” classrooms in their communities by helping educators get the tools and materials they need to ensure that all of their students are starting the year on the right foot with the supplies they need. Subaru is focusing on schools that are defined as high need (schools that have a Title I Schoolwide Program and/or schools where 40% or more of the student population qualifies for the Free or Reduced-Price Lunch Program).

Subaru will also be matching online donations to AdoptAClassroom.org dollar-for-dollar, up to $350,000 in total, for the entire month of August. AdoptAClassroom.org will use these donations to make an equitable distribution to help teachers at high-needs schools across the country. Subaru is the largest corporate supporter of AdoptAClassroom.org, and will have supported more than 300,000 students nationwide through these efforts.

“We’re excited to team up with Subaru again this year to further our shared mission of creating an equitable learning experience for children nationwide,” says Ann Pifer, Executive Director of AdoptAClassroom.org. “Every student deserves a chance to thrive in the classroom, and through our work with Subaru, so many more students will get that chance this school year.”
