Subaru is now collaborating with its national partners to support relief efforts in the communities affected by the recent California wildfires. Subaru and its retailers are providing financial assistance as well as nonprofit donations and employee matching contributions to organizations like Meals on Wheels America, the American Red Cross, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), and World Central Kitchen.
Subaru, a longtime supporter of Meals on Wheels America, is contributing $50,000 to the organization to assist local Meals on Wheels providers in the Los Angeles region, who are serving as a lifeline during the response and recovery efforts in the wake of the disaster, continuing to deliver meals to seniors in need. With more than $32 million contributed over the previous 16 years, Subaru is the largest automotive donor to Meals on Wheels America.
Additionally, Subaru is giving $50,000 to the ASPCA and the California Wildfire Response & Preparedness Fund in order to support animal welfare organizations who are addressing the needs of animals as a result of the wildfires. Expenses for field operations, emergency sheltering or medical treatment for affected animals, animal evacuation and relocation, or animal supply and food distribution will all be helped by this funding. Additionally, the ASPCA's Wildfire Fund will assist groups in developing their capacity to withstand future fires and other calamities. Since 2008, Subaru has contributed more than $38 million to the ASPCA, making it the largest corporate donor to the organization. This has helped more than 134,000 animals nationwide.
Subaru dealers in the Los Angeles area are working with the automaker to assist ongoing volunteer programs and relief efforts, including organizing the delivery of necessary materials to designated shelters and support groups.
Subaru is offering $500 to $1,000 toward the lease or purchase of a new Subaru vehicle, depending on the model, to customers whose automobiles were damaged or lost as a result of the devastation caused by the wildfires. Subaru has also started a 2:1 employee matching donation program to support World Central Kitchen and the American Red Cross, providing $2 for every $1 given by employees, for a total of $20,000 that will be divided equally between the charities. As a longtime Red Cross partner, Subaru has contributed more than $600,000 and several cars to the Ready 365 Giving Program, which allows the Red Cross to start working right away and deliver life-saving assistance all year long.
"The widespread devastation caused by the relentless wildfires in Southern California is truly overwhelming, but we remain committed to supporting the affected communities,” said Jeff Walters, President and COO, Subaru of America, Inc. “In collaboration with our national partners and retailers, we are working to ensure that relief reaches those who need it most, helping them rebuild their lives and move forward.”
