The current non SUV line-up from Subaru includes only the Legacy sedan, the Impreza WRZ, and the X hatch. The sales of the XV (an SUV) has increased substantially but at the behest of the Impreza hatch.

Even though the 2.0 L Impreza X is not the best looking in its class, it does offer unmatched performance and a terrific 4WD experience which cannot be matched by any other car in its class.

The Impreza X comes with three free years of servicing which makes it a sensational buy, especially since it also has the AWD system that Subaru is known for. Now you can get around in inclement weather and not have to worry about getting trapped in a flood, for example, as easily as you could if you do not have AWD.

One of the only sales barriers for this car is the low supply. You may not be able to get Subaru Impreza right off the showroom floor, especially if you're looking for a particular color. But if you have your heart set on one, you wouldn't mind waiting anyway (there is nothing wrong with waiting a couple months either). Another incentive of waiting is that you get a 2L 4WD hatch that is well equipped at a modest price.

Performance

The 2L, 4 cylinder, boxer engine doesn't offer a lot of power but it is still much more powerful than the 1.8L motors found on rivals. Despite the numbers, it's zippy enough to drive around town and on open roads just. The engine has been around in multiple forms for a while now and is a sort of veteran. Lots of effort has been put into its refinement and it has resulted in one of Subaru's smoothest engines until date. It is also one of the cleanest & greenest engines which meets Euro V emission standards. Most of the credit is given to the smart auto stop-go technology which shuts down the engine whenever the vehicle is not moving.

Transmission

Subaru Impreza comes with one of the best CVT's (Constant Variable Transmission's) which gives the X an edge over its competition. It glides through gears deftly and does a great job of not only maximizing fuel economy, but performance as well.

There are a few roomier hatchbacks with superior passenger & load space but the Impreza X functions pretty well during everyday driving although any tall back seat passengers would end up complaining about space on the rear seats.

Suspension

The coil suspension forms a powerful first line of defense against any rogue surfaces. There is a multi-link rear-end setup which can get the car over some rough surfaces with ease. The reassuring stability and grip of the AWD is quite assuring during these instances.

Features

The car is safe and well equipped with seven airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. It comes with a reverse camera which is sufficient for it to have a 5 star ANCAP rating. It has a number of handy features including a rear spoiler, multi-function display, dual-zone air conditioning, cruise control, rear privacy glass, front fog lights, and 16 inch alloy wheels.

The sound system is compatible with MP3, iPod, and WMA. It has a USB and an auxiliary input. The Bluetooth technology also includes voice commands. The mirrors, electric windows, and power steering round out the standard features on the car. This car is outstanding for a small family, Little League mom, or even a single woman. It has the style, room, and capabilities many people look for in a car.
