The engine is meant to be coupled with Lineartronic continuous variable transmission which will help in fuel economy with increased power delivery.

Where is Subaru heading?
WRX/WRX STI Project General Manager Masuo Takatsu remarks how Subaru is keen in enhancing the 2.0 L turbo charged 2016 WRX engine to make it the pinnacle of performance and efficiency. It would preferably be the Subaru norm by 2020. These changes are in line with the vision of Subaru to hold its niche by delivering exhilarating power packed driving experience and fuel economy.
The three aspects that will remain in focus are - fuel injection, combustion process, and tumble flow process air induction. Simply put, the new version of the engine will be all the more powerful than the current engine in use in the WRX. Of course, the focus now is on finding out when exactly this powerhouse WRX STI will be available to customers to be able to be owned and taken home!
