Subaru of America has recently announced that the 2021 Subaru Ascent has earned a 2020 Top Safety Pick+ Award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
This family-first, full-size 3-row SUV joins eight other Subaru vehicles in receiving an IIHS award this year.
The latest Ascent still offers a spacious interior, flexible seating options, and a long roster of safety, driver-assist, and convenient in-vehicle technologies, but it was the addition of Steering Responsive LED headlights with High Beam Assist that truly earned this ride the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award for 2020.
In order to earn a 2020 Top Safety Pick+ or Top Safety Pick award from IIHS, vehicles must earn at least a “Good” rating in six crashworthiness evaluations including driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests.
In addition, award-worthy vehicles must earn at least an “Acceptable” headlight rating, and either an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating in both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.

The Ascent comes standard with Subaru EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, which includes automatic emergency braking, and earned a “Superior” rating for both aforementioned evaluations. The Subaru models that have won the IIHS award are all equipped with EyeSight as well.
Available in four trim levels, including Base, Premium, Limited, and Touring, the 2021 Ascent joins the 2021 Crosstrek and 2020 Forester, Legacy, Outback, Crosstrek Hybrid, Impreza, and WRX in receiving awards this year.
