Earlier this month, eight-year-old Antonio of Camden, NJ was given a Subaru-aided surprise of a lifetime: a personal fleet of Subaru vehicles (led by a Camden County Police escort) packed with holiday gifts from his personal wish list arrived at his front door.
Antonio, who courageously battles a critical, life-threatening illness, was completely unaware that his virtual shopping spree wish had been granted thanks to Subaru’s annual Share the Love Event.
The fleet of Subaru vehicles, which were piloted by representatives from Subaru of America, arrived at Antonio’s home at 3:00 p.m. on December 11, 2020. Antonio and his family stepped outside just in time to welcome Subaru drivers, Camden police officers, and Make-A-Wish staff who waved to him and cheered Antonio on from a safe distance.
Although eight-year-old Antonio was diagnosed with critical, life-threatening cancer, his mother Rachel says that her son is energetic, enthusiastic, and sweet with a warm heart and a deep love of his younger brother.
According to his parents, Antonio doesn’t fully understand his illness, which has been difficult for him and his family. Yet still he embraces each new challenge with a positive attitude and a smile, even when he must stay overnight at the hospital.
For Antonio, who has an affinity for Hot Wheels, auto racing, and cars in general, a wish-come-true from Subaru serves as a beacon of hope that brings joy and good tidings during this particularly difficult time.
As part of his virtual shopping free, Antonio wished for and received items that are sure to bring him joy this holiday season. These include a brand new HD TV and TV Stand, a PlayStation console and games, Hot Wheels, race car tracks, an assortment of Lightning McQueen items from Disney’s Cars, a tablet, a new desktop computer, new clothes, sneakers and winter jackets, bedding, and much more.
Since becoming a national charity partner beneficiary in 2011, Make-A-Wish has received more than $23 million in donations through the Subaru Share the Love Event. These funds have brought hope and joy to more than 2,500 children nationwide.
