According to a recent report by Car and Driver, Subaru of America will soon be releasing an all-new equipment package to its Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek models. The package, which will be known as the Wilderness package, is likely to include a number of off-road focused elements for Subaru’s most globe-trotting models.
In fact, recent spy shots seem to confirm even more details, including a lifted suspension that is much higher than the Outback’s current standard 8.7 inches of ground clearance. In addition, we see black six-spoke wheels, knobby tires, and various other rugged appearance tweaks.
While the package is expected to become available very soon on all three aforementioned models, Subaru’s signature Outback is likely to be first on the dockett.
The Wilderness package is expected to be available only on Outback’s that are equipped with the more powerful 260-horsepower turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder engine, at least at first.
Since this version of the Outback is equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and standard all-wheel drive, the pairing is quite harmonious to say the least.
There’s no official word on when the Wilderness package will be available at Subaru dealers nationwide, but reliable sources have stated that they expect the package to be made available on the Outback, Forester, and Crosstrek by the end of 2021.
