Subaru of America was recently honored as the first-ever winner of the Corporate Compassion Award from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The Award is designed to recognize the auto company's active dedication and efforts to protect and support pets across the United States. Subaru and other 2021 ASPCA Humane Award winners will be celebrated at the virtual Humane Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021.
President and CEO of Subaru America, Thomas J. Doll, stated about the award, "At Subaru, we know that owners have a passion and love for their pets, but unfortunately not all animals are provided loving homes and families. That's why Subaru and our retailers are proud to help animals in our communities and be long-time supporters and partners with the ASPCA. We are excited to accept the first-ever Corporate Compassion Award on behalf of not only Subaru and our retailers, but also for our Subaru community who is devoted to helping all animals feel safe and loved."
The rigorous ASPCA Humane Awards is bestowed on people and organizations who do more than just their part. Award winners raise the bar for making significant changes that improve animal welfare, in addition to those animal heroes who help humans or other animals in exceptional ways. Via the Subaru Loves Pets initiative, the company and its retailers continue to support the wellbeing, rescue, transportation, and adoption of over 250,000 animals.
Subaru strives to ensure all pets have loving homes, and the company heavily influences awareness of adoption and life improvement opportunities for pets in need. These efforts include spreading awareness about vulnerable pet populations like the “hardest-to-adopt” shelter dogs, and older, deaf, blind, and "different" dogs that Subaru lovingly called the "Underdogs," through its yearly National Make a Dogs' Day initiative.
"For the past thirteen years, our partnership with Subaru has helped tens of thousands of vulnerable animals around the country," said Matt Bershadker, President and CEO of the ASPCA. "We are grateful to Subaru for their sustained commitment to helping animals in need and are proud to honor them with the 2021 ASPCA Corporate Compassion Award."
