Subaru received the Highest Overall Loyalty to Dealer award for the 2022 calendar year, as well as recognition for the Subaru Outback, which was given the award for Highest Model Loyalty in the Mid-Size Utility Segment.
This marked the 27th annual Automotive Loyalty Awards for S&P Global Mobility, and especially in 2022, which has been another difficult year, it’s an honor for Subaru to be recognized. "The past three years have been a challenge for the automotive industry," said Joe LaFeir, President, Automotive Insights, S&P Global Mobility. "As customers are returning back to market post-pandemic and inventory levels have slowly improved from last year's lows, retaining loyal customers has been more challenging than ever before."
Inventory shortages across the entire industry have caused many consumers to shop with other brands when a brand they previously preferred did not have sufficient stock, S&P Global Mobility reports. From before the pandemic in 2019, overall industry average loyalty has dropped from 54.6% to 50.2% in 2022. In a climate like this, customer loyalty and retention is more prized than ever.
Customer loyalty in the automotive industry is measured by a household that owns a new vehicle returning to the market and purchasing or leasing another new vehicle of the same make, model or manufacturer. S&P Global Mobility gathers their numbers by analyzing new vehicle registrations during 2022 and converting that data into the coveted awards that Subaru has acquired.
