Getting the most out of your car means a lot more than just considering the purchase price. A vehicle is an investment, and between insurance, maintenance costs, fuel costs, and depreciation, how much a car costs you to own can be wildly different from how expensive a purchase it was in the first place. This is why every year, Kelley Blue Book runs its 5-Year Cost to Own awards, and this year, Subaru has taken home five different awards in recognition of Subaru vehicles being excellent long-term investments for drivers!
The Kelley Blue Book Cost to Own awards take into account the different expenses that come with owning a car, like the examples listed above, over a period of five years after purchase. These different expenses are all combined into a single dollar amount to provide a sense of the true financial impacts of owning a particular vehicle versus another, making it a valuable tool for car shoppers, particularly given Kelley Blue Book’s well-regarded status as the leading provider of new and used vehicle valuation and information. Kelley Blue Book then uses the data from this study to recognize standouts in different categories for how cost effective they are to own over time.
Subaru took home five separate awards this year, several of them adding consecutive wins to an already impressive trophy case. The 2023 Subaru Ascent won the Mid-Size 3-row category for the third year in a row, and the 2023 Subaru BRZ won the Sports Car category for the second year in a row). The 2023 Impreza won for Compact Cars, while the 2023 Forester won the Compact SUV category for the fourth year in a row and the 2023 Outback took the prize in the Midsize SUV 2-row category for the third year in a row.
