One of Subaru’s most beloved projects is Subaru Loves Pets month, which takes place every year in October. The Subaru Loves Pets initiative is one of many charitable efforts run by the automaker, which holds community service and giving back as one of its main pillars as a company. Subaru has finally been able to announce the overall results of last year’s Subaru Loves Pets month. The initiative features an annual adoption campaign, and in October of 2023, it resulted in over 52,000 shelter pets finding loving homes!

During the month of October last year, participating Subaru retailers came together with their communities and local partner shelters to support these invaluable organizations through hard work and fundraising. Along with the many pets who went to new homes and better lives, freeing up shelter space for even more animals to be rescued, Subaru was able to donate more than $1.8 million to hundreds of local shelters, rescues, and pet organizations. These funds are vital to support the care of animals in need all over the country.

“Subaru is dedicated to supporting animals in need, including helping to unite thousands of shelter pets with their forever homes nationwide every October,” said Alan Bethke, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Subaru of America, Inc. “Achieving over 52,000 pet adoptions in a single month would not have been possible without the support of our committed retailers, compassionate shelter partners, and everyone who embraced pet ownership in October.”

Over 600 Subaru retailers participated in Subaru Loves Pets month last year, hosting adoption events in partnership with their local shelters. Every pet adopted through one of these events also resulted in a $100 donation from retailers to shelters during October. Subaru also donated $20 to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) for every purchase of Pet-Friendly Accessories like pet harnesses, seat protectors, and travel bowls through Subaru Parts Online during the month. The company also ran a Subaru Badge of Ownership initiative, offering “Animal” badges for sale and donating $1 to the ASPCA for each one sold during October.

The Subaru Loves Pets initiative has helped more than 157,000 shelter pets to be adopted and find homes since the inception of its adoption campaign. October 22nd, 2023 was also the fifth annual National Make a Dog’s Day, a holiday organized by the automaker that encourages people everywhere to do something special for the dogs in their life and to support the adoption of so-called “Underdogs,” or dogs that are older, disabled, or otherwise “different” and struggle to be adopted.

It’s estimated that since 2008, Subaru’s pet-focused initiatives have been able to positively impact the lives of over 480,000 animals, as well as donating over $52 million to national and local pet organizations.
