Few recognitions carry the same weight for a car as being awarded a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and Subaru has just added two more of these prestigious honors to the roster! The 2024 WRX was just named a Top Safety Pick, while the 2024 Solterra all-electric SUV took home the title of Top Safety Pick+.
These are far from the only recognitions that Subaru vehicles have earned from the IIHS. The Subaru Ascent has been a Top Safety Pick+ winner for four consecutive years. The Impreza has also been named a Top Safety Pick for a whopping seventeen years straight, and the Subaru Outback has earned the same title for the past sixteen years. As of September of 2024, Subaru has received 72 Top Safety Pick+ awards since 2013, more than any other brand on the market today.
The IIHS has been working with new standards and testing methods lately. For 2024, the requirements of both the Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ awards have been modified, covering new criteria for side impact protection, pedestrian front crash prevention systems, and moderate front overlap crash safety. As the world of automotive technology and the environment on the roads change, safety standards have to evolve as well, as reflected in the IIHS’s updated requirements. Subaru’s continued excellence in these ratings is a sign of the automaker’s ability to provide nothing less than the best in terms of safety.
“Safety is at the heart of every one of our vehicles, and we're excited to add the Solterra and WRX to the growing list of Subaru models recognized by the IIHS this year with TOP SAFETY PICK awards,” said Jeff Walters, President and Chief Operating Officer of Subaru of America, Inc.
