To date, Subaru’s dedicated pet-focused efforts have led to the adoption and support of over $250,000 shelter pets to date. In last year alone, a year dominated by stress and difficult adaptations for all walks of life, the Subaru Loves Pets initiative successfully found loving homes for more than 20,000 animals in need.
Thanks to participating retailers nationwide and the kindness in the hearts of Subaru customers and supporters, Subaru of America announced earlier this week that 22,961 animals were taken in, with 16 percent reported as adoptions of dogs with special needs, animals that Subaru has affectionately referred to as “Underdogs.”
“Helping to unite pets with loving homes is one of the most rewarding aspects of our Subaru Loves Pets initiative, and we are thrilled to see more than 20,000 animals adopted,” said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO of Subaru of America, Inc. “Knowing that Underdogs face special challenges on their journeys to loving homes, we are especially proud to have impacted their lives for the better through this campaign.”
In October of 2020, Subaru launched a nationwide campaign that focuses on championing dogs everywhere, but particularly those in shelters, those with disabilities, and those with special needs. The efforts also highlighted senior dogs, amputees, hearing or visually impaired dogs, and those with other physical challenges The campaign culminated in the second-annual “National Make a Dog’s Day” event, which was held on October 22.
To support the mission, over 500 participating Subaru retailers held or sponsored pet adoption events throughout the month, supporting more than 500 local shelters nationwide.
Following such smashing success, there is little doubt that Subaru of America will revive the event yet again for 2021, and we can’t wait to see the difference it will make for thousands of our furry friends all across the country!
