Subaru recently announced that the updated 2024 Impreza will be unveiled for the first time at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. The event celebrates the 30 years since Subaru debuted the compact vehicle to the U.S. market in the early 90’s. Enthusiasts should expect to enjoy the Impreza’s improvements and design tweaks, and newcomers will get to witness the latest iteration of a great compact car.
Many anticipate that the new Impreza will continue to be offered as a hatchback built on Subaru’s signature scalable unibody Standard Global Platform. It’s anticipated that the U.S. Impreza will offer standard all-wheel drive, an updated roof-mounted EyeSight safety system package, and an available five-speed manual transmission or CVT automatic. Based on the updates for the new 2024 Crosstrek, we also anticipate the Impreza to arrive with more interior storage space, better cabin noise dampening, and a vibrant 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen.
Industry experts have also speculated that the new car will likely get Subaru's 2.5-liter naturally aspirated flat-four Boxer engine unit that offers 182 horsepower. It’s still unknown whether the Impreza will be designed with the Crosstrek's new hybrid setup and/or the Legacy's more capable 2.4L flat-four engine as options.
The Crosstrek’s stylish exterior is now more refined and smooth, and Subaru installed more black plastics along the outside of the body. Upper trim levels benefit from upgraded 18-inch wheels. The Crosstrek brings new seats that Subaru says feature better support and a structure designed to reduce vibration and shaking. The vehicle also gets more sound insulation for immersive comfort.
