Subaru of America recently celebrated the company’s environmentally-focused philanthropic initiative, Subaru Loves the Earth, which is part of the larger Subaru Loves mission, for reaching a new milestone. The recycling milestone achieved by the campaign includes over six million disposable cups and lids, coffee, tea, creamer packaging, and snack wrappers over the past four years.
"At Subaru, we feel a responsibility to protect Earth's natural wonders for future generations to enjoy, and our partnership with TerraCycle helps us fulfill that commitment while also getting our community and customers involved," said Thomas J. Doll, President and CEO, Subaru of America, Inc. "When it comes to protecting and preserving our environment, we're all in this together, and Subaru is proud to offer ways for people to get excited about recycling."
The organization utilizes TerraCycle Zero Waste Boxes at 616 qualified Subaru retailers nationwide, supporting customers, employees, and community partners with a way to recycle waste that is usually very challenging to recycle, like snack wrappers, throw-away cups, lids, plasticware, and more. Subaru wants customers to collect these waste streams at their home and bring them into a local participating Subaru retailer for proper recycling.
After being collected, the waste is transformed into recycled tools and other products, including public benches, park tables, and playground equipment. Subaru retailers are also able to order products made from the recycled materials via a specialized Subaru product-line, produced with help from TerraCycle, to be donated to community organizations.
“At TerraCycle, our mission has always been to eliminate waste, recycle the unrecyclable and use our innovative business solutions to minimize human impact on the planet,” said Tom Szaky, TerraCycle CEO. "As we continue our partnership with Subaru, we look forward to building on our previous successes and continuing to inspire local communities to take action to preserve the environment for future generations."
“At Subaru, we believe that being a steward of the environment means more than loving the great outdoors—it means making the effort to preserve it for future generations,” said Alan Bethke, Senior Vice President – Marketing, Subaru of America, Inc. “Our retailers are helping Subaru of America live our mission to make the world a more sustainable place by keeping hard-to-recycle waste out of landfills. We encourage our community members to check if their local retailer is accepting outside recycling, and if so, responsibly dispose of their hard-to-recycle items.”
